Little crosswords, big spelling practice

Crossword Typer brings the classic paper puzzle to your keyboard. Each grid is a small five by five crossword written for children, with short clues and everyday words that are safe and friendly. You solve it by typing the answers straight into the squares, so you practise spelling, vocabulary and typing in one go.

How to play Crossword Typer

Read the clue for the current answer, then type its letters. The cursor follows the answer and moves forward as you type each correct letter. Press Tab to jump to a different clue if you would rather start somewhere else. A wrong letter is counted as a mistake with a small flash, but it never locks the grid, so you can correct it and move on. When you finish a crossword the next one appears. Press Esc to pause.

The three-minute round

A round lasts three minutes. The game picks puzzles from a set of at least twenty hand-written crosswords, so you will not see the same grid every time. Your score depends on how many correct letters you type before time is up. When the timer reaches zero the round ends, which also means the game finishes if you stop playing.

For teachers and parents
