Missing Letter: Fill the Gap, Finish the Word

Missing Letter shows you words with one or more letters knocked out, and you finish them by typing only what is missing. It is a short, focused spelling puzzle that fits neatly into a few free minutes.

How to play

A picture clue and a word with gaps appear, such as b_t_erfly. Type the missing letters in order and the word locks into place. Get it right to earn a star and move on. Each set has ten words, and a complete set earns a badge.

The core idea

The game trains the part of spelling that usually trips people up, the middle of a word. Early sets remove one vowel. Later sets remove double letters, silent letters or whole syllables. A hint button reveals one letter, and the game remembers which words needed help so they return in your next set.

Skills you practice

  • Spotting which letters a word really needs
  • Learning double letters and silent letters
  • Typing short letter groups without hesitation
  • Using picture and context clues

For teachers and parents

Missing Letter pairs well with weekly spelling lists. Teachers can ask students to explain why a letter belongs there. Parents can use it as a quick review before bedtime without any pressure.

Tips for better play

Say the full word in your head before typing, and listen for the sound the gap makes. Common traps include double consonants in words like accommodate and silent letters in words like knight. Keep a short list of words that needed hints, and review them the next day while they are still fresh.
