Word Chain: Link Words End to End
Word Chain is a vocabulary game where each new word must begin with the last letter of the one before it. You type the links, and the chain grows across the screen.
How to play
You are given a starting word such as river. Its last letter is r, so the next link must start with r, perhaps rabbit. Type your word and press Enter to add it. The chain keeps growing until you run out of time or cannot find a word that fits.
The core idea
Every link must be a real word from the built-in word list, and you cannot reuse a word in the same chain. A countdown ring refills a little with each good link, so long chains are possible. Some letters, like x and q, are rare endings, so the game gives a bonus when you survive them.
Skills you practice
- Thinking of words quickly while typing
- Growing vocabulary and spelling together
- Planning ahead to avoid tough ending letters
- Typing words of mixed lengths smoothly
For teachers and parents
Word Chain works well as a class warm-up in turns: one student types, the next continues. Parents can play it as a family by taking turns at the keyboard. Choose the easy list for younger children.
Tips for better play
Plan one move ahead. If your word ends in a hard letter such as x or q, you may get stuck on the next link, so prefer endings like e, s, t or r when the clock is tight. Longer words earn more points but cost more time, so mix short and long links to keep the ring full.
