Word Bricks

Break a lowering castle wall by typing the word on each brick, then watch bricks fall and same-colour neighbours blow up in a chain.

Controls

Type the word on the lowest brick on the left to break it. Bricks above fall down; same-colour neighbours explode in a chain. A wrong letter is counted but does not block you; Backspace undoes a typed letter. Esc pauses the game.

Clear the wall before it reaches the line

Word Bricks gives you a cartoon castle wall made of colourful bricks, and every brick carries a word. The wall lowers a row at a time, and you break it apart by typing. It looks like a puzzle game, but your fingers do the aiming, so every smart choice about which brick to clear first has to be typed out.

How to play Word Bricks

Type the word on the lowest brick on the left side to break it. The game picks that brick automatically, so you do not need to click anything. Wrong letters are counted as mistakes and flash, but they never block you; keep typing the word. Press Esc to pause. When the bottom brick breaks, everything above it drops down under gravity.

Gravity and chain reactions

Bricks come in several colours. After bricks fall, if two bricks of the same colour land next to each other, they blow up together in a chain, and the bonus points add up if the explosion sets off more pairs. Watching the colours as you clear the bottom of the wall can turn a normal round into a high score. The wall steadily lowers by one row at a time. If it touches the bottom line the game ends, and if you stop typing the wall will reach the line by itself.

Skills you will build

  • Typing whole words accurately.
  • Planning which brick to clear to make colours match.
  • Reading ahead while finishing the current word.
  • Keeping a calm rhythm under steady pressure.

For teachers and parents

Word Bricks lets students practise a vocabulary list in a lively way. Ask them to find chains, then talk about why they work. Strategy and spelling both get a workout. Use the typing test to track speed over a few weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is Word Bricks free?
Yes. Word Bricks is free to play in your browser with no download and no sign-up.
Which brick do I type first?
The game targets the lowest brick on the left side of the wall.
How do chain reactions work?
After bricks fall, two bricks of the same colour that touch will explode together. If that explosion lines up more matches, the chain continues for bonus points.
How does the game end?
The game ends when the wall reaches the bottom line. If you stop typing, the wall keeps lowering until it gets there.
What if I type a wrong letter?
It is counted as a mistake and flashes, but you can keep typing the correct letters straight away.
