Snail Sprint

Race two rival snails around a garden track by typing the letters on screen, one key at a time, and cross the finish line first.

Controls

Type the letters shown on screen to move your snail forward. A wrong key only wiggles the snail; press the correct key to carry on. Esc pauses the game.

A slow-and-steady race that is anything but slow

Snail Sprint puts three little snails on a sunny garden track, and you steer the one in your own lane. Every key you press correctly makes your snail slide forward one step. There are no long words to remember and no tricky punctuation, just the next few letters waiting for you, which makes it a friendly first race for new typists.

How to play Snail Sprint

Look at the letters shown on screen and type them in order. Each correct key moves your snail one step along the track. A wrong key never stops you: it gives a quick wiggle, it is counted as a mistake, and you simply press the correct key to keep crawling. You do not need Backspace. The race ends when your snail crosses the flag, and your place depends on the order the snails arrive: if both rivals got there first you finish third. If you stop typing, the rivals still finish, and once they are both home the race ends with you in third place.

Rivals, rows and levels

The letters come from one keyboard row at a time. The first level uses only the home row, the next adds the top row, and later levels bring in the bottom row, so your fingers learn the keyboard in sensible steps. Your two rivals type at their own speed: about 8 words per minute in the first race, climbing to about 20 words per minute as the levels go up. Every race ends with a first, second or third place result. Finish first or second and the next race moves up a level; finish third and it drops back one level, so the race always stays at a friendly pace.

Skills you will build

  • Finding the home, top and bottom rows by feel.
  • Keeping your eyes on the screen instead of your hands.
  • Building a steady rhythm instead of rushing.
  • Recovering from a wrong key without stopping.

For teachers and parents

The row-by-row letter sets match the order many classroom programs use, so Snail Sprint fits neatly beside a home row lesson. Encourage learners to beat their own best score rather than worry about the rivals. A quick typing test before and after a few weeks of play shows how much their speed has grown.

Frequently asked questions

Is Snail Sprint free?
Yes. Snail Sprint is free to play in your browser with no download and no sign-up.
What letters will I type?
The letters follow the keyboard rows. Early levels use the home row, then the top row, then the bottom row as you level up.
What happens if I press the wrong key?
Nothing blocks you. The snail wiggles, the mistake is counted, and the next correct key moves you forward again.
How fast are the other snails?
They start at about 8 words per minute and speed up to about 20 words per minute at higher levels.
How does a race end?
The race ends when your snail crosses the finish flag. You place first, second or third depending on how many rivals arrived before you. If you stop typing, the race ends once both rivals have finished and you take third place.
