Laser Letters

Shoot down friendly night-city drones by typing the single letter each one carries before they reach the ground.

Controls

Type the letter on a drone to fire the laser at it. The lowest drone with that letter is the one that gets hit. A drone that reaches the ground costs one of your three shields. Esc pauses the game.

One letter, one laser shot

Laser Letters is the gentlest shooter on the site. Small round drones drift down over a cartoon city at night, and every drone carries exactly one letter. Type that letter and your laser fires. There are no whole words to read, so it is a great way to practise finding keys quickly and to stay calm when several letters arrive at once.

How to play Laser Letters

Watch for the letters on the drones and type them. When you press a letter, the laser shoots the lowest drone that carries it, so the most urgent target always goes first. If two drones show the same letter, the one closer to the ground is hit. A key that matches no drone is counted as a mistake and flashes softly, but the game does not stop and you can press the right key straight away. Use Esc to pause.

Shields and speed

You protect the city with three shields. Each drone that reaches the ground uses up one shield, and when all three are gone the game is over. The drones fall slowly at first, which leaves time to look at the keyboard if you need to, and then more of them arrive as you play. Since the drones keep coming, a player who stops typing will lose the shields and finish the game.

Skills you will build

  • Recognising letters and finding their keys quickly.
  • Choosing the most urgent target first.
  • Staying accurate while several letters are on screen.
  • Building the first habits of touch typing.

For teachers and parents

Because every target is a single letter, Laser Letters suits learners who are just meeting the keyboard. Try asking them to say each letter out loud before they press it. For older students who already know the keys, it still works as a quick reaction warm-up. To see their speed on full words, send them to the typing test.
