Typing Maze: Type Your Way Through the Walls

Typing Maze turns a top-down maze into a word puzzle. There is no running or steering. Instead, every doorway is sealed by a word, and you move forward by typing the right one.

How to play

Your explorer starts at the entrance. At each junction you will see two or three doors, each labelled with a different word. Type the word on the door you want and the explorer walks through. Only one route reaches the exit, so read the map hints and think before you type.

The core idea

Each maze mixes a small puzzle with typing. Colored signs tell you which words lead to treasure, which loop back, and which lead to dead ends. Typing a wrong door does not end the game, but it adds a step to your path and lowers your star rating. Later mazes add timed gates that close if you wait too long.

Skills you practice

  • Planning a route while keeping your fingers moving
  • Reading ahead to the next doorway
  • Typing short words accurately under mild pressure
  • Logical thinking alongside keyboard skills

For teachers and parents

Because the puzzle part is slow and the typing part is quick, this is a gentle choice for classrooms. Students can draw their own maze on paper first, then compare. Parents can help younger children by reading the signs together.

Tips for better play

Before typing, trace the likely route with your eyes and note which signs point toward treasure. Fast typists often lose stars by choosing too quickly, so a short pause is part of good play. Replaying a finished maze is a great way to practice the same words until they feel automatic.

Try replaying a maze to earn three stars by finding the shortest route. Browse more in Puzzle Typing Games, see the full typing games list, or measure your speed with the typing test.

Frequently asked questions

Is Typing Maze free?
Yes. All mazes are free to play in your browser.
Do I lose if I pick the wrong door?
No. A wrong door only adds steps and lowers your star rating.
Is there a time limit?
Early mazes have none. Later mazes add gates that close, which you can see coming.
How is it different from other puzzle games?
You solve by choosing and typing words, so route planning and typing work together.
Can I replay mazes?
Yes, and replaying is the best way to earn all three stars.
